UX Design for Enterprise Software

As the UX practice becomes more and more mainstream in web and mobile software design, the world of enterprise software is still slow to adapt and truly embrace the benefits of UX.
 
The primary focus of enterprise software design and development has always centered on functionality, often at the expense of usability and visual design.  The concept of creating a user-centered product is often an afterthought, until the platform is rolled out and real people have to learn it and use it on a daily basis.
